website__MONUMENT_detail_1_Small_WinCEMansfield boasts a significant historical memorial in honor of the three Victoria Police members Sergeant Kennedy and Constables Scanlon and Lonigan murdered by the Kelly Gang at Stringybark Creek in 1878.

 

The impressive marble Troopers' monument was funded by public subscription from NSW residents.  It is the feature of the roundabout in the centre of the Mansfield Township and listed as a Vitoria Police significant site.WEBSITE_SCANLAN_LONIGAN_2_Small_WinCE

 

Also of significance are the graves of the three police members.

There are signs at the entrance lichgate indicating their location.

 

 

 

The proclamation resulting in the Gang members being declared outlaws was made from the steps of the Mansfield Courthouse on November 15, 1878.

The Courthouse, which is across from the monument, is still in use today.
