Kelly Armour comes to Beechworth’s famous Ned Kelly Weekend Friday 6th – Sunday 8th August 2010

Replica of Ned Kelly Helmet The Beechworth Historical Re-enactment Group (BHRG) is very proud to announce an exhibition of all four suits of the Kelly Gang's armour for the 2010 Ned Kelly Weekend from August 6 - 8, 2010.

Beechworth's Ned Kelly Weekend is set to be one of the key heritage tourism events for Victoria in 2010 and is only the fourth time all four suits of armour have been shown together since 1880 and the first time outside a capital city.  It is anticipated that many Kelly enthusiasts will take the opportunity to visit Beechworth during the Festival to see this exciting exhibition - don't miss this opportunity!

Now in its eighth year and widely regarded as this country's most important annual celebration of the Kelly legend, Beechworth's Ned Kelly Weekend commemorates the 130th anniversary of the outlaw's committal hearing held in the historic Beechworth Courthouse from  August 6 - 8, 1880 and his execution on November 11, 1880.

BHRG President, Adam Wynne-Jenkins says visitors to Beechworth who view the armour will be amazed with the quality and workmanship of Australia’s most recognised artifacts.  On Friday August 6 all schools in the Indigo Shire will be invited to view the armour free of charge.

Established in 2008 with a membership of 30 and growing fast, the BHRG is a committed living history group which recreates Beechworth of the period between 1852 to 1885. The BHRG is often seen on the streets of Beechworth and other regional centres taking part in street parades, displays and other commemorative activities including the re-enactment of the Kelly Gang robbery of a bank in Euroa and the siege of the Ann Jones' Inn at Glenrowan.

The Beechworth exhibition of the Kelly Gang's armour would not have been possible without the support of the State Library of Victoria, Victoria Police Museum, Museum Victoria, Sir Rupert Hammond, Indigo Shire Council and the Beechworth Bakery as the major sponsor of the event.
